About Windy Raven
Aaron and Ellen are the makers behind every Windy Raven product. They live and work from their small off-grid log home in Montana, surrounded by sage and juniper and only a few miles from the Missouri River. They enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, and camping all around Montana and the American West. They currently have a young and energetic Boxer dog, named Bowie, who keeps them on their toes!
What We Value: The mission of Windy Raven is to create heirloom-quality products. We create our leatherwork with original carved art that preserves and advances the long history and craft of leather work. Our metal tools balance modern blade profiles with a classic Japanese wrap aesthetic for a unique, and functional, tool design.
Windy Raven is focused on creating products that are built to last. As a brand we value quality, authenticity and craftsmanship. With our leather work, we are committed to advancing the education of leather craft.
Shop nowAbout Ellen
Ellen traveled across the Northeast for several years before moving to Yellowstone National Park and realizing she belonged in the West. After Yellowstone, she relocated to Bozeman, Montana, where she met Aaron. Ellen had an office job in technology, but it was unfulfilling.
Ellen was given a set of vintage leather tools from Aaron’s father, and the concept of learning to tool and carve was born. Working with leather has allowed Ellen to return to art in a unique and challenging way.
About Aaron
Aaron moved to Montana from Alabama due to his love of the mountains and ice climbing. He aspired to be a mountain guide, but plans changed after a major knee injury and he ended up at a desk job. That lifestyle was far from what lured him to Montana.
Aaron has been a collector of knives for years, a passion he shares with his father, and as his collection grew, so did his curiosity for working with metals. Aaron learned from several other makers to help hone his skills before gradually establishing his own shop, including his father’s 1983 Wilton grinder.
Aaron blends the aesthetic of traditional Japanese swords and modern blade profiles resulting in a unique design that prioritizes function and dependability.
